#FollowKaren

As our first ever #Follow we subsequently started to do a little blog each week to share a bit more information about the wonderful people that make up the #AwakenHub community (affectionately known as '#AwakenHubbers) so here is a retrospective profile on the fabulous #FollowKaren @killaney - Karen McCormick who has also recently ventured into her own first startup inCharge - a lifestyle & budget management solution enabling effective person centred planning. Growing a community of services

Q1: How would you describe yourself in 6 words or less:

Caring, Positive, Learning, Resilient, Aware, Determined

Q2: What prompted you to start your business?

I had an idea that totally took me by surprise but it wouldn't leave me. I had just changed jobs and was really enjoying my work. I think there were a few factors that aligned: doing a short online course on social innovation, being around creative people both on and offline (socially distanced of course), some quiet time that lockdown brought, and personal insight from having long term caring duties.

Q3: Can you tell us a bit more about you?

I have worked in development roles across many sectors so I have a broad range of skills, mainly in business, local/economic development, and project management. I have been fortunate to spend time around inspiring people and pride myself on valuing relationships and finding ways to get work delivered.

Q4: How has being part of the AwakenHub community helped your business?

For me being a member of the AwakenHub community is fundamental to me having a business at all. Having been around entrepreneurs for many years, I have never had an idea I felt strongly enough about. Being part of an online community like this is a fast track way of learning. It is opening my mind to the things I don't know I don't know, facilitating access to new people, and providing actual tangible help by signposting to the people who have the answers or at least the direction you need to go to find them.
