This week we are delighted to introduce you all to music loving sisters Perry & Jacqui Meskell, co-founders of Huggnote – an Irish #femalefounded start up headquartered in Limerick.

Huggnote is a new form of wordless communication - that uses the power of music to uplift, inspire and connect in a truly meaningful way. The statrup was awarded the Competitive Start Fund by Enterprise Ireland in 2016 and has had two successful BETA.

Q1. How would you describe your business in 6 words or less?

Huggnote turns songs into ‘virtual huggs’…

Q2. What prompted you to start your business?

The idea for Huggnote came about when founder Jacqui was living abroad as a friend was going through a difficult time and she wished she could be there to give her a hug, but couldn’t. Then a song on the radio brought back such happy memories of her friend that she knew if there was a way to somehow digitally gift-wrap that song and send it directly to her… it would say everything words couldn’t!

Q3. Tell us a bit more about yourselves

Our background is quite varied – Jacqui is a former journalist and management consultant and Perry’s is in tech commercialisation and business admin. We now work full-time on Huggnote as CEO and COO respectively. Our goal for last year was to grow our users – which we did by 2000% to 205 countries. So this year we want to continue that upward trend – reach that 1 million users milestone, release our 1.0 and hopefully build out our team! Our ask for the Awaken Hub community is simply to continue supporting Huggnote and spread the word. And we’d love to inspire other women to consider entrepreneurship – we need more women in tech. Being part of the AwakenHub community has been amazing! Founding a startup is so hard and often quite a lonely journey – and so having this community of fellow female founders who have your back, means the world! It supports and inspires us every day!
