It’s a pretty long #Follow this week as we introduce you all to Social Enterprise Solutions Ireland CEO Clodagh O’Reilly. Most social enterprises have the social part down, they have identified a need and the way in which an initiative can help.  What they might not have down is the commercial expertise to transform an idea into a scalable sustainable business. That's where Clodagh comes in. With 20 years of finance, business and social enterprise management experience, she offer’s strategic analysis and practical plans to help social enterprises succeed.

How would you describe yourself in 6 words or less?

Passionate about social enterprise in Ireland

What prompted you to start your business?

I was the CEO of a social enterprise for 3 years so have good insight into the day to day challenges. Social enterprises have so much potential to ensure we all thrive as a society, to create equity and opportunity for those who might not otherwise have the same access.  I am keen to help social enterprise thrive and think my combined experiences of commercial, social and research mean I am well placed to provide meangingful supports.

Can you tell us a bit more about you?

I trained as an accountant originally and a chance temp job in Vancouver opened my eyes to the possibilities in the impact sector. I have always been very passionate about the potential of community but also intrigued by the world of business. Social enterprise allows me to combine both of those passions. I love the concept of social enterprise, a business that operates to create impact as well as financial return. I am currently also undertaking a PhD in TU Dublin focusing in on the area of scaling, how can we support social enterprises to address social issues at scale. Turning those incredible local initiatives into solutions at a broader level.

Fill us in on your current female founder journey and what would you like to share with the AwakenHub community?

I launched my consultancy earlier this year, it was a big step out. It is difficult and daunting putting yourself out there but I have had so many conversations with people over the years who are intimidated and overwhelmed by finances. It is such a crucial part of business and yet so many don't understand the fundamentals. I think I have a good ability to translate finances into an understandable language and this prompted me to start my business offering supports primarily to social enterprises who are interested in that scaling up journey and need some help along the way.

How has being part of the AwakenHub community helped your business?

I am really passionate about the potential of community. Gathering like minded people who can support and build eachother up is powerful. When working on your own and starting out on the journey it can be isolating and having a community where you can come together to share your wins or challenges and ask for help has real impact. I really appreciate it.

What can the AwakenHub community do to help you Clodagh?
